The Weekly SEO Workflow: Automating Discovery to Action

Prism Discovery TeamPublished 20 May 20261 min read

The problem with ad hoc SEO

Most SEO teams work reactively. A ranking drops, someone notices, an investigation begins. By the time the fix is deployed, weeks have passed.

The five stages of a weekly SEO cycle

Stage 1: Data sync (Monday morning)

Automated data collection: Google Search Console data, AI visibility checks, competitor changes, technical site audit.

Stage 2: Gap analysis (Monday)

Automated analysis identifies traffic declines, CTR anomalies, content decay, AEO gaps, and technical issues. Each is categorised by severity.

Stage 3: Competitor intelligence (Tuesday)

New competitor content, ranking changes, new backlinks, and AI visibility changes.

Stage 4: Action planning (Wednesday)

Based on the analysis: which pages need updates, which new content to create, which technical issues need attention, and which AEO optimisations to prioritise.

Stage 5: Content execution (Thursday-Friday)

Blog posts targeting gaps, content updates for decaying pages, meta optimisation for CTR, and FAQ sections for AEO.

What to automate vs. what needs human judgement

Automate: Data collection, gap detection, competitor monitoring, content brief generation, first-draft creation, technical issue detection.

Keep human: Strategic prioritisation, content review and editing, brand voice decisions, technical fix implementation.

Measuring the impact

A well-executed weekly cycle should show measurable improvements within 4-8 weeks: fewer active issues, faster response to drops, increased content output, improved AI visibility scores.

Getting started

Start with automated data sync and gap analysis. Add competitor monitoring once the basics are running. Layer in content automation as your team becomes comfortable with the workflow.
